Full Description
Two cellars and a number of medieval pits were encountered during construction work at Commonhall Street between 1954 and 1956 in advance of construction of a new printing works. The work involved the excavation of three cellars, and the observation of a fourth, and ten trenches.
Two pits of a probable medieval date were encountered in cellar II. It is uncertain how these cellars relate to the medieval archaeology recovered within them, however. In addition, a number of medieval pits were recorded in several of the excavated trenches across the site, the pits contained few sherds of medieval material but they are not discussed in detail. (1)
