Full Description
An 18th century cellar was recorded during archaeological investigations to the east of Goss Street in 1948. The cellar was recorded in trench 2 of the excavations. Although the cellar was not discussed in detail, a quantity of post medieval material was recovered from the fill including large quantities of post medieval pottery including tygs as well as an assemblage of glass wine bottles and other items.
The evidence would suggest the bottles had originally been intact with their original contents however the process of fermentation had caused them to explode at the neck. (1)
