Summary

The present Frodsham Street dates back to the 13th century at least and has been variously named ‘Coole’s Lane’ in the 16th century and ‘Cow Lane’ in the 18th century. It is probable that the road was used as a cattle drove to the cattle market at Gorse Stacks

Full Description

The present Frodsham Street dates back to the 13th century at least and has been variously named ‘Coole’s Lane’ in the 16th century and ‘Cow Lane’ in the 18th century. It is probable that the road was used as a cattle drove to the cattle market at Gorse Stacks (1) Lavaux’s map of 1745 depicts a road parallel to the City Wall terminating in the Cow Lane turnpike.
