Monument record 10023 - Newgate Street, Chester

Newgate Street originally ran south from Eastgate Street to Pepper Street although it has since been truncated by the construction of the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in the 1960s. It was originally called Fleshmonger’s Lane in the 18th century. (1)

Fleshmonger's Lane is of medieval origin, first mentioned in the early half of the 12th century. (1)
