Summary

Cuppin Street is first mentioned in 1286 the road extended west from Bridge Street towards the city Wall although its eastern end has since been altered by the introduction of the Grosvenor Road in the 19th century and its western end has been blocked following the construction of the inner ring road in the 1960s.

Full Description

Cuppin Street is first mentioned in 1286 as ‘copineslone’, it appears to relate to a personal name. The road extended west from Bridge Street towards the city Wall although its eastern end has since been altered by the introduction of the Grosvenor Road in the 19th century and its western end has been blocked following the construction of the inner ring road in the 1960s. (1)

Archaeological investigations carried out in the city in 2012 identified traces of former road surfaces beneath the present Cuppin Street however no dating evidence was recovered. (6)
