Full Description

The Cross was the intersection between the four main roads outside St Peter’s Church. It is first documented as a distinct area in 1517 as the Hie Crosse and has continued to be marked as such until the present day. (1) From 1700 it was the site of the Conduit, an early water supply system (CHER 10274).
Archaeological investigations at the Cross in 2012 identified evidence of a former, post medieval road surface. (6)
