Full Description
Watergate Street is one of the four main streets of Chester leading from the Cross to the Westgate. The road may have its origins in the western part of the Roman via Principalis (CHER 8595) with evidence of an earlier road surface believed to be Roman underlying the present street. It is first mentioned in around 1220 as ‘watergatestrete’. (1)
