Summary

During intensive archaeological excavations at 25 Bridge St. (the Debenhams site) in 2001, a late Saxon timber building was recorded. This building was defined by a group of four post holes forming a right-angle, and no internal features were identified.

Full Description

During intensive archaeological excavations at 25 Bridge St. (the Debenhams site) in 2001, a late Saxon timber building was recorded (1). This building was defined by a group of four post holes forming a right-angle; the area enclosed measured at least 4m north – south and 2.6m east – west, but its full extent was not preserved (1). No internal features were identified. One of the post holes contained packing stones.
