Full Description
During trial excavations carried out to the south of the Dee House in 2000, two human burials were found on the eastern part of the site (in Area III), and one of these was radiocarbon dated to Cal AD 880 - 1020 (1). There is little doubt that these interments were related to St John's Church immediately to the east, and the accompanying burial practices and associated radiocarbon date would strongly argue for them being of late Anglo-Saxon (tenth century) date, and they therefore pre-date the earliest surviving remains of St John's church (1).
