Summary

Archaeological investigations between 1978 and 1982 as part of the Hunter Street/Princess Street excavations uncovered evidence of a timber built structure adjacent to a second century track. Quantities of domestic waste recorded from pits near the building suggest it was at least partly residential. In the early third century the building was demolished and the site levelled.

Archaeological investigations between 1978 and 1982 as part of the Hunter Street/Princess Street excavations uncovered evidence of a timber built structure adjacent to a second century track (CHER 8417). (1)

The structural evidence for the timber built structure comprised several beam slots located to the east of the track in the southern half of the insula while features identified within the interior of the structure included opus signinum floor surfaces and painted wall plaster. Quantities of domestic waste recorded from pits near the building suggest it was at least partly residential. In the early third century the building was demolished and the site levelled (1)
