Full Description
What is described as a cultivation layer dating to the Saxon period is reported to have sealed a series of Saxon structures, features and a substantial building at the site of 1 Abbey Green (1). This same report states that the cultivation layer was followed by stone robbing (of Roman remains) in the Late Saxon period. Note, however, that a more detailed report (4) does not mention the presence of a cultivation layer, or of ploughed soils (4).
