Archaeological investigations carried out between 1978 and 1982 as part of the Hunter Street/Princess Street excavations uncovered substantial evidence of a road to the west of the large courtyard building. The road was likely a continuation of that recorded further south between the courtyard building and the elliptical building

Full Description

The north-south aligned road surface was traced for some distance between the large courtyard building in insula 16 and the adjacent store buildings in insula 21, that it was a major road was clear in that it extended some 11m wide in several places. The road was likely a continuation of that recorded further south between the large courtyard building and the elliptical building (CHER 8410/1)

Archaeological investigations carried out between 1978 and 1982 as part of the Hunter Street/Princess Street excavation uncovered substantial evidence of a road to the west of the masonry structure. The excavations covered a substantial area west of Northgate Street between Princess Street and Hunter Street and the excavations, carried out over a period of 4 years, encountered substantial traces of four barrack blocks in insula 22 (CHER 8300; 8413; 8163 and 8391) the store buildings in insula 21 (CHER 8403; 8420) and the masonry structure in insula 16 (CHER 8312).
