Full Description
Archaeological investigations carried out on the east side of the present Goldsmith House (formerly the Assay Office) between 1968 and 1971 encountered the remains of a centurion’s house of the First Cohort, however, the results have not been published in detail. At Chester the area of the First Cohort is currently poorly understood; it appears to have consisted of at least 5 barracks of normal type and 5 single-range buildings. (1)
