Full Description
Traces of a north-south aligned road surface was recorded to the east of a centurion’s house (CHER 8373) during archaeological investigations at the Northgate Brewery site between 1974-77. (2)
An extension east of trench 2 recorded a road surface [Feature F31] comprising broken sandstone and tile fragments set in a brown soil, west of the road surface between it and the wall of the centurion’s house a kerbstone comprising sandstone blocks was also encountered. The earliest evidence of this surface was contemporary with the main stone phase of construction in the mid to late second century. (2)
