Full Description

Archaeological investigations at Crook Street in 1973 identified a series of post and stake holes attributed to the early phase of fortress activity involving the division of the fortress and the initial phases of construction. The post holes formed a linear alignment interpreted as a temporary wooden fence. Although dating evidence was not forthcoming the stratigraphic sequence suggests they post date the early levelling phase but predate the timber barracks indicating a mid to late first century date.
