Full Description
A narrow roadway was recorded during archaeological investigations by Prof Newstead in the Deanery Field in 1928. The investigations concentrated on an area north of a barrack building previously discovered by Newstead in 1924 (CHER 8349/1) identifying the northern end of that structure followed by a narrow road or alley paved with cobbles immediately to north before a second structure (CHER 8350) was discovered. (1)
The surface of the alley appeared to comprise a series of layers beginning with a clay foundation some 0.25m thick followed by a second layer of rubble before the final surface of cobbles. (1)
