Summary

Excavations at the Abbey Green site 1975-1977 encountered a small quantity of Iron Age pottery and flint artefacts. Although the finds were recovered from later deposits and are likely residual, there is evidence of prehistoric activity in the area comprising a number of pre Roman plough marks.

Full Description

A small quantity of Iron Age pottery and prehistoric flints were recovered from the area of excavations at Abbey Green between 1975 and 1977. The finds were recovered from Roman deposits and are likely residual (1) Pottery recovered from the area of the second fortress rampart. (3)
