Monument record 8293 - Roman surface at Bridge Street

A possible road surface was recorded during archaeological investigations at Bridge Street in 2001. The surface was formed out of tightly packed pebbles believed to represent a road running on a north-south alignment close to a second century stone built structure.

Archaeological investigations to the rear of 25 Bridge Street in 2001 identified a surface of rammed pebbles possibly representing a north-south aligned road or yard surface. A third century sewer was subsequently cut into this surface (CHER 8291). (1)
