Summary

A substantial layer of Roman building debris including brick, tile and stone was recovered during archaeological investigations at Bridge Street in 2001. The evidence overlay a mid second century building that appears to have been abandoned some time in the fourth century AD.

Full Description

Archaeological investigations to the rear of 25 Bridge Street in 2001 identified a deliberate demolition layer of a Roman structure (CHER 8290) comprising several layers of sand and clay containing sandstone and tile fragments. (1)
