Full Description
Traces of a north-south aligned sewer were recorded during archaeological investigations to the rear of 25 Bridge Street in 2001 and to the west of a second century Roman structure. The sewer comprised a pair of parallel sandstone walls set approximately 0.74m apart. The walls survived to a height of 0.6-0.7m and was capped with sandstone slabs. The earliest fills of the sewer contained finds of a mid second century date.
A sewer tributary cut on an north-east to south-west alignment from the northern end of the sewer was also recorded, however no firm dating evidence was recovered. (1)
