Summary

During the construction of Eccleston Avenue in June 1929, at a location approximately 7.6m east of Eaton Road, at the same time that a cremation burial and rubble wall foundations, fragments of a hammerhead type mortarium dating to between the third and fourth centuries was found in unstratified deposits.

Full Description

During the construction of Eccleston Avenue in June 1929, at a location approximately 7.6m east of Eaton Road, at the same time that a cremation burial (CHER 8385/4) and rubble wall foundations (CHER 8387), fragments of a hammerhead type mortarium dating to between the third and fourth centuries was found (4). As the cremation is first to second century, this later pottery represents a distinct findspot.
