Full Description

A structure recorded as ‘ts’, a ‘Traverse Station’ recorded by the OS in 1954. The site visits have shown that this feature strongly resembles a Spigot mortar base, a WW2 feature generally manned by the Home Guard. The feature is considered to be of national importance as material evidence of the preparations for the defence of Britain during WWII; the feature is of local and regional significance as evidence of a part the local Home Guard would have played with the aim of slowing up an advancing enemy so that the regular army could regroup (1).
