Full Description
Over the course of an extensive archaeological evaluation carried out in the grounds of West Cheshire College in 2006, several distinct phases of Roman activity were identified (1). Sealing the remains of a wall, interpreted as part of a substantial funerary monument in Trench I (CHER 8385/1), was a final layer of cultivated soil.
Based on the finds, the deposit dates to between the first and second century, but based on stratigraphic association, it should be thought of as dating to a late moment within that range (1).
