Full Description
Woodbine Cottage, the Village. Formerly farmhouse, now house. C16 or earlier origins, late C17 exterior but remodelled and upper storey raised early-mid C19. Washed brick on stone plinth, cob walling internally. Welsh slate roof, two gable brick chimneys. Two-room plan, two-storey symmetrical three-bay front. Dentil brick band at first floor and dentil cornice. Sash windows. Central bay has trellis porch in front of moulded surround. Interior: Ground storey has cob walling surviving from original one-storey house. Heavy ceiling beams rest on depressions in rear wall plate and are hung from window lintel to front. Simple dog-leg staircase. Perhaps the unique example of cob walling surviving in Cheshire. Full architectural description (1).
