Summary

A former small country house built in 1860 for Mr John Bolton Littledale. The building became the headquarters of the Mid Cheshire Electricity Board and subsequently other organisations.

Walling: bricks. Light red. 3 1/8" x 9" Flemish bond. Stone plinth. Projecting stone quoins. Ornate feature at eaves. Stone parapet. Stone cornice and medallions. Roof: thin slate with tile ridge. Few chimneys. Brick dentil course. Doors: stone porch. Moulded entablature. Scroll and leaf. Windows: Tall vertical sash. Stone lintels (+ sills) with stressed keystone. Bay windows to rear.

“…Mr John Bolton Littledale was a wealthy Cheshire businessman who lived at the then Sandiway Bank (now Sandiway House)…The House was subsequently owned by Sir John Brunner Bt who was MP for Northwich from 1910 to 1918 - he was the son of the founder of Brunner Mond…It was then empty for some time before being used as the Mid Cheshire Electricity Board headquarters, then by Leonard Fairclough (builders), offices for AMEC plc and it is presently a private house…”

Built in 1860. The service wing and the northern courtyard building were demolished sometime between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s and replaced with a large l-shaped office building. This building has now been demolished and replaced with housing. Housing has also been built in the area of the former parkland.

This map depicts the house extending further to the west than it's present footprint. Described as a house, buildings, yard, lawn approach and plantation in the ownership (and occupied) by William Henry Worthington.

This map depicts the house with a possible attached service range to the immediate west. The service range forms the eastern side of a courtyard. Further buildings form the northern and western (see CHER 6523) sides of the courtyard. The house is located within a small parkland or gardens with a drive connecting to Walting Street to the south, where a lodge is located (see CHER 6254).
