An archaeological Watching Brief was undertaken intermittently between 2013 -2016 during groundworks at Grange Farm, Hartford. Planning permission was granted for the construction of up to 300 dwellings, associated parking and the re-use of Grange Farmhouse. During the evaluation, the area surrounding Grange Farmhouse produced exclusively post medieval ceramics, potentially suggesting that the current farmhouse is not built over earlier structures. Additionally, remnants of a structure in the form of a wall foundation made of unfrogged bricks was located at the north-eastern corner of the farmhouse. The remains were exposed for 1m in length and 0.44m wide and excavated to one course deep. It is thought to represent the foundation of an outbuilding contemporary with the farm.
