Summary

Roman lead weight. Found in April 1958, whilst gardening and subsequently presented to the Grosvenor Museum. On one face it has 2 deeply punched digits indicating a nominal value of 2 unciae amd on the other a less deeply punched letter H. It weighs 821.5 grains, a deficiency of 2.6% on the basis of 2 unciae. A unciae is a roman unit of measuring weight. It is one 12th of the libra (the roman pound) and is roughly equivalent to one ounce.

Roman lead weight. Found in April 1958, whilst gardening & subsequently presented to the Grosvenor Museum by Mr H E Higginson. On one face it has 2 deeply punched digits indicating a nominal value of 2 unciae & on the other a less deeply punched letter H. It weighs 821.5 grains, a deficiency of 2.6% on the basis of 2 unciae (1).
