Full Description
Front Garden Walls and Gatepiers at Shotwick Hall, Hall Lane. c.1665 for Joseph and Elizabeth Hockenhull. Brick with red sandstone dressings. Square in plan. Plain front wall on stone plinth has corner and intermediate square piers with stone plinths, some framing of the body and moulded capstones. The central gatepiers are similar but larger with ball finials and jambs topped by small scrolls from which hang a pair of C20 iron gates. North wall returning to house is plain with a flat stone coping. The south wall has a ramp, internal buttresses and an inserted gateway (1).
