Summary

Site of a timber framed building, now demolished. The use of timber framing in this building is a deliberate construction technique common in Northwich during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries designed to reduce the effects of subsidence. If subsidence occurred, the structure could be jacked to a level position or dismantled and moved.
