Summary

A late nineteenth century timber framed office building dated 1881. The use of timber framing in this building is a deliberate construction technique common in Northwich during the nineteenth century designed to reduce the effects of subsidence. If subsidence occurred the structure could be jacked to a level position or dismantled and moved.

First storey of red brick with a timber framed upper two storeys. Projecting windows on upper storey, especially on the second storey. Ornate stained-glass window on northern side with inscription above “Erected 1881”.
