Full Description
Archaeological investigation in 2011 at St Martin's Lodge recorded evidence of two features in trenches some 15m to the east of the Roman structure (CHER: 8151). The limited nature of the investigation however precluded any extensive examination of the function of these features.
A probable sandstone surface was recorded in Trench 3 with evidence of some Roman ceramic building material in the upper fills while in the nearby Trench 4, a single ditch on a north-west to south-east alignment whose fill was later cut by several pits. Finds from this phase of activity were consistently Roman in date. (1)
