Full Description
A complex series of pits and features, including ditches, cut into a Roman quarry (and its fill deposits), recorded to the south of Delamere St., on the site of another, later post-medieval stone quarry (1). Called Phase 1b by the 2006 excavators (ECH5215), it seems that the Roman extraction of stone had stopped, and although the site continued to be used as a refuse dump, small pits were being dug into it.
Small linear ditches were also dug at this time, in addition to a larger ditch towards the east side of the site, identified by an earlier excavation (ECH5216). The finds contained in these features' fills suggest a second century date (1).
