Summary

Roman coin hoard found in 1818 by workmen digging for marl. It comprised a number of Roman coins of the emperors Valerian and Postumus contained in a pot which promptly disintegrated.

Roman coin hoard found in 1818. 'Some workmen employed in a field of Mr Wicksted's in Chorlton, near Malpas, to sink for marl, found at about a yard's distance from the surface, a number of Roman coins of the emperors Valerian and Postumus. The pot in which the money had been deposited was mouldered into dust'.

Roman coin hoard found in 1818. 'Some workmen employed in a field of Mr Wicksted's in Chorlton, near Malpas, to sink for marl, found at about a yard's distance from the surface, a number of Roman coins of the emperors Valerian and Postumus. The pot in which the money had been deposited was mouldered into dust'. The find spot was recorded by Watkin near the 'supposed Roman camp at Chorlton'.
