Summary

A former school house built sometime in the seventeenth century within a small plot on Healey Hill Common. The school operated until the early twentieth century. During the Second World War the building was a Home Guard headquarters and in 1947 became the home of the local district nurse. The house was extensively rebuilt on its original plan during renovations undertaken in the mid-twentieth century.

Former school building, circa seventeenth century. Substantially altered, but with some original details. Local stone construction.

The school building is not depicted, but the surrounding plot on Healey Hill Common is. The award describes the plot as a Cottage, School and Garden occupied by Joshua Cragg and owned by the Reverend Henry Wright and others, trustees of Mottram School.

The building was originally a seventeenth-century one-up-and-one-down chicken farm to the Old Hall. Later a parish school until c.1912. During the Second World War the building was a Home Guard headquarters and in 1947 became the home of the local district nurse. The house was extensively rebuilt on its original plan as part of renovations undertaken by the owners.
