Summary

An early Victorian house built between 1831 and 1848 and located within a garden. By the 1890s the garden had been lost to quarrying and the house was reputed the home of a quarry master.

Windyway House is a property from the Victorian period, and was originally a quarry owner’s house with links to Teggs Nose Quarry. The property features arched windows and a columned portico.

Depicted as plot 1 on this map. Described in the award as house and pleasure grounds occupied by the Reverend Hugh Thomas Downman.

This map depicts the house labelled Windyway House. Gardens extend to Saddler's Way to the south-west. A belt of woodland is planted along the south-eastern boundary. Addittional buildings lie to the immediate north-east of the house and extend along the north-eastern boundary to Buxton Old Road. To the immediate nort-east of this boundary is a quarry.
