Summary

Carnegie Library 77 Station Road Ellesmere Port A pitched roof of concrete plain tile (it was formerly Westmorland slate) with ca entral tiled cupola capped with copper ventilator. There is a stone capped parapet to the gable facing Station Road and an ornate cartouche. Over the central door there is elaborate strapwork around a rose window. The main construction is of slim (2”/50mm) Red Maibon brickwork with York stone dressings to eaves, corner quoins, window key stones and sills. “Library” is inscribed over the main door and “Free Library” over the bay on the end gable.

Description

Pitched roof of concrete plain tile (was formerly Westmorland slate) with central tiled cupola capped with copper ventilator. Stone capped parapet to gable facing Station Road.

Elaborate cartouche and strapwork around rose window over central door and to Station Road end gable.

Main construction: slim (2”/50mm) Red Maibon brickwork with York stone dressings to eaves, corner quoins, window key stones and sills.

Wording “Library” over main door. “Free Library” to head of bay on end gable.

Ceased to be town library in 1962, now used as Assemblies of God Pentecostal Church and Oasis Christian Centre.
