Full Description
An Elizabethan silver coin hoard found in 1895. Found under a doorstep to a cottage. Part of the hoard went to the British Museum, the rest, 38 pieces and the cup in which they were found went to the Grosvenor Museum. The coins include 19 separate issues dating from 1559-1594. The date of burial of the hoard may have taken place c.1600 (1). Report of 1952 conflicts with this in details. The hoard was said to have been found under a tree at Mickle Trafford. It was contained within a small earthen ware jug. The entire contents of 38 coins were believed to be in the Grosvenor Museum (2).
