Summary

Reputedly there has been a timber framed building on this site for at least 300 years. A building which corresponds to the western part of Wych Cottage is depicted on the c.1850 tithe map for Adlington township. The Owner for the surrounding gardens is listed at Charles Richard Banastre Legh (of Adlington Hall) and the occupier as Samule Bayley. Bricks used to infill to the timber framing or in the construction of later brick structures were either hand made (probably on site) or may have been made in the Poynton area. This building was demolished in November 2009.

Full Description

There has been a timber framed building on this site for at least 300 years. The report may suggest the the bricks had been made in the Poyton area. The building has been demolished but a selection of hand made bricks and a section of timber framing were retained for re-use (1).

A building which corresponds to the western part of Wych Cottage is depicted on the c.1850 tithe map for Adlington township. The Owner for the surrounding gardens is listed at Charles Richard Banastre Legh (of Adlington Hall) and the occupier as Samule Bayley (2).
