Summary

A cast copper alloy seal matrix dating to the medieval period. The matrix in effectively a mould and when pressed into molten wax, the matrix leaves the imprint of the users seal. Seals were commonly used to authenticate a document.

Full Description

A cast copper alloy seal matrix dating to the medieval period. The seal has an oval face and a hexagonally faceted shaft. The object has an oval attachment loop; the perforation is filled with corrosion. No legend or device can be seen on the face of the object. It is very worn and in poor condition (1 & 2).
