Full Description
Cast lead mount in the form of a dolphin of uncertain date. The object is S-shaped in plan and oval in cross-section. The object consists of a bulbous oval sectioned noise below which is a wide open mouth. The mouth has been damaged possibly where the dolphin attached to another object. On each side of the head are circular annulet-style eyes. The back of the fish arches upwards and a moulded serrated fin runs along the arch. Each side of the object is decorated with semi-circular incisions which represent fish-scales. The tail is bent backwards and terminates in an anchor-shaped terminal. At the bend of the fin is a projecting irregular knop possibly for attachment. The object is very worn and in poor condition. It ahs a mid white patina and displays both modern and ancient damage (1 & 2).
