Find Spot record 7929 - Early Medieval Finds From Land Off Rake Lane

Fragment of a cast copper alloy strap end dating to the Early Medieval period. The object is sub-oval in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The upper surface is decorated with a band of probable interlace decoration. At the terminal end is a small rivet hole. The tip of the object has broken away. It has a brownish green patina.

Cast copper alloy late Saxon stirrup strap mount. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and rectangular in cross-section. The upper surface is decorated with a central diagonal cross with openwork in each angle. Below this is a small rectangular tab which contains two rivets for attachment. Each edge of the object is broken. The object conforms to Williams Type 12 (see 4).

Cast copper alloy fragment of a zoomorphic stirrup terminal. The object is irregular in plan and consists of an arched back with a projecting terminal. The projection is solid and sub-rectangular in cross-section with a rounded tip. The arched back is hollow and would have been filled with solder to take the corner of the iron stirrup. A similar example is fig 4f, FRG Datasheet 24 (see 3). A few small fragments of dark green patina remain on the object. The fragment is badly worn.
