Cast copper alloy Penannular brooch dating to the Early-Medieval period. It is circular in plan and in cross-section. The hoop is ribbed. The terminals are polyhedral. It has a long pin which is slightly bent. It is 24.34mm in length. The pin consists of a single piece of copper alloy which is folded over at the top forming an attachment loop to the buckle. The top of the pin is ribbed. The brooch is of Fowler's (1963, p 98-160) Type G, Fowler outlines the problems in dating brooches of this type and suggests a wide date range from the 4th century through to the 8th century (ibid, p 107-9), although this example is likely to date to the 5th or 6th century.
