Stone head found upside down in the garden of a Cottage in Tarporley, measuring 24cm in height. It has a stylized frill around the line of the face with ties under the chin suggesting it is the head of a female. It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Full Description

Stone head found upside down in the garden of a Cottage in Willington, Tarporley. Height 24cm. Front to back 21cm, width 16cm. Post or late medieval. Stylized frill round the line of the face with ties under the chin suggests the head of a female (1). It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.
