<1> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Various, Portable Antiquities Data Import, LVPL-20B8D4 (Digital Archive). SCH5212.
Fragment of a cast copper alloy dolphin brooch dating to the first century AD. The fragment consists of the head, the wings and the spring, the rest of the brooch having broken away just below the head. The wings are tubular and quite deep to house the spring. Vertical grooves border the outer edge of the wings. A semi circular raised moulding decorates the sides of the head mirroring the curve of the wings. A horizontal pin can be seen protruding from one of the wings, and follows the length of the wings securing the spring in place. The remains of a hook can be seen on the crest of the head. The head is decorated by a central vertical panel which is wide at the top of the head and narrows as it follows the bow down. It has a light green patina.
