Full Description
Farmhouse: dated 1770, built for James Wylde with some C20 alterations. White pointed Flemish bond orange brick with yellow headers on a rubble plinth. Kerridge stone-slate roof and 2 gable brick chimneys. Double-pile plan with a 2-storey symmetrical 3-bay front. The end bays have deepened C20 3-light casements with cambered brick heads below and 2-lights above. The modern rustic timber porch with lean-to roof has a semi-circular headed entrance to small internal porch with a board door behind. Above is plaque reading JAN 1770. Inside the internal layout survives. There are chamfered sawn ceiling beams and exposed joists. Complete set of 4-board doors downstairs and handrail of dogleg, bracketted open string staircase survives. Heavy flags for upstairs hearthstones rest on the joists.
A simple local type of brick farmhouse, with a very complete interior and only slight alterations to the fenestration.
