Full Description
Madam's Farm house, a Grade II listed former dowerhouse of Dorfold Estate, now private house. Built in the late C18 (but with earlier origins) of red brick, in English Garden Wall Bond to the façade, Flemish Bond to the gables and the rear elevation. The roof is of slates in diminishing courses. The house is 3 storeys high, and has 3 bays standing on a projecting brick plinth. The main entrance door has six fielded panels and fanlight above, in stone doorcase with engaged Doric columns, triglyph dosserets and open pediment. The windows are sashes with exposed weight boxes, glazing bars, stone sills and flat brick-on-edge arches. Gable end chimney stacks and barge boards. The rear (east) wing, which completes a "T" shaped plan, has a good oak boarded door. To the interior: Six-panel doors on HL hinges and some wide boarded doors. Some doors are hung on cranked butt hinges the blades of which are morticed and wedged into the hanging stiles. Chamfered beams and exposed joists.
