Summary
19th century railway cutting presumably built by 1869 to serve the Cheshire Lines Committee's Northwich - Chester Railway. The Cheshire Lines Committee was set up in 1865 and was responsible for the creation a series of railway routes linking the west of the county around Stockport and Knutsford to Northwich and Chester. Railway cuttings are artificial "valleys" dug through hills to allow the railways to be laid level.
