Full Description
Typical Cheshire Lines Committee station building, two storey brick built, two gables on platform front, verandah with cast iron pillars, ornamental slates.(1) Opened between 1874 and 1875 (1) to serve the railway connecting Northwich and Mickle Trafford (completed in 1869 2 ), it also provided a point of alighting and exit for passengers for Tarvin. Despite its small size the station was significant enough to warrant the nearby existence of a small goods shed with its associate collection of sidings.(3) Furthermore, by 1911 `Station Cottages' (SJ4688 7020) had been constructed nearby. If the level of traffic and goods exchange was sufficient to merit the employment of clerical staff, the railway company may have been obliged to build accommodation nearby. This may account for the cottages. The station was closed in 1953.(1)
