Full Description
The crossing was required following the completion of the railway line connecting Manchester and Chester when completed in 1869. (1) This was a venture undertaken by the Cheshire Lines Committee, formed in 1865 by amalgamation of the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire, the Great Northern, and the Midland railway's.(2) By 1968 the Plemstall Crossing still survives as a means to cross the railway for those coming and going from Holme Farm. (3)
