Summary

A gold mourning ring dating to 1727. It is inscribed in the inside with he name Mary Normandy. The outside of the ring is highly decorated with black enamel, a skeleton, a crossed shovel and pick, and an hour glass. All of these pictures symbolise death and the end of life. Below this is an open book with the words 'MEMENTO MORI' meaning a memento of death.

Gold Post Medieval mourning ring dating to 1727. It is inscribed in the inside of the ring with 'Mary Normandy ob 9 Jan 1727 cet 55' The outside of the ring is highly decorated with black enamel. Firstly there is a skeleton. Below the skeleton is a crossed shovel and pick. Next there is an hour glass. All of these pictures symbolise death and the end of time/life. Below this is an open book with the words 'MEMENTO MORI' written on the 2 pages. This means a memento of death. There is an X below the word MORI which just appears to be to fill space.
